How to compress images
- Drop the images in. Mixed formats in one batch are fine.
- Set the Quality. 75% is a sensible starting point for photos on the web; drop to 60% for thumbnails, raise to 85% for anything that will be printed or zoomed.
- Optionally cap the longest side. This is usually where the real saving is — a 6000px photo displayed in a 1200px column is carrying five times more pixels than anyone will ever see.
- Choose JPG for maximum compatibility or WEBP for the smallest files, then press Compress.
Why this one is different
Almost every free file tool works the same way: you upload your file to a company's server, their machine does the work, and you download the result. That means a copy of your document sat on someone else's hard drive, governed by a privacy policy you did not read.

Questions
How much smaller will my images get?
For an unoptimised photo straight from a phone or camera, 70–90% smaller is typical once you cap the dimensions and set quality to around 75%. For a file that has already been through a compressor, expect much less — there is only so much redundancy to remove.
Why is my compressed file sometimes bigger than the original?
Because the original was already better compressed than the settings you chose. The result row shows a red +% when this happens so you can see it immediately. Lower the quality, cap the dimensions, or keep the original.
Does this remove EXIF data?
Yes. Re-encoding through the browser's canvas discards EXIF metadata, including GPS coordinates, camera model and timestamps. That is a privacy benefit for images you are about to publish, but it means you should keep your originals if you rely on that data.
Can it compress PNG losslessly?
Not in a meaningful way — a browser cannot re-run a PNG optimiser like pngquant or oxipng. If you need a smaller PNG, converting to WEBP is almost always the better move, and WEBP supports transparency too.
Is there a limit on how many images I can do at once?
No fixed limit. Images are processed one at a time rather than all at once, so a batch of several hundred works — it just takes longer. The status line tells you which file it is on.
